Eradication of Albizia & Other Invasive Species
At Haleakala Yard Service, we understand the threat posed by the Albizia tree and how difficult it can be to remove large specimens cleanly and efficiently. As with most non-native species, the danger posed by this strain of tree may not be immediately obvious to the average homeowner; Most Albizia trees seem healthy and do not pose a visual risk without prior experience. These trees are notoriously flimsy and even the most robust-looking examples are prone to dropping limbs without any warning or indication of damage, owed mostly to the naturally brittle wood that is often further weakened by internal rotting and infestation of insects.
Hurricane season brings added risks as strong winds bring down entire trees and multiply the already extensive damage caused by these tumultuous seasons. As an invasive species in Hawaii, Albizia is too quick to grow and not hardy enough to withstand the weather of the islands as has been proven time and time again by tropical storms. When it isn't busy dropping limbs and being uprooted wildly it is also notorious for dense canopies that block vital sunlight to the ground below and often chokes out native species that are properly beneficial to our local environment.

Risk of Albizia
The risks associated with Albizia can be easily minimized by removing the offending trees while they are still young. Vigilance is key in catching sprouting trees before they become fully grown nuisances and seeing growth rates of a foot every two to three weeks is not uncommon; When in doubt, if a tree is growing suspiciously quickly on your property, it may be time to call in a professional for a proper estimate. Should long-standing trees already exist on your property, the careful deployment of proper herbicides by a trained and experienced hand from Haleakala Yard Service can keep a minor nuisance from causing thousands upon thousands of dollars in damages in the case of a fallen limb or uprooted tree.
By employing the use of Milestone herbicide, we are able to remove offending specimens of Albizia with minimal to no damage to already-existing grasses and native plants. Registered and reviewed as the first and only vegetation management herbicide under the EPA's Reduced Risk Pesticide Initiative, Milestone has been rigorously tested to ensure its safety near plants you want to keep and the natural waterways of Hawaii.
Additionally, our services extend to other invasive species on the islands ranging from cape ivy to strawberry guava and everything in between.
If you reside in or near Keaau, Pahoa, Hilo, Mountain View, Volcano, or anywhere in the Puna District and you suffer from an infestation of Albizia or other non-native species, call Haleakala Yard Service. It's never too late to stop a minor problem from becoming a big expense in the future and Haleakala Yard Service has the experience and attention to detail that will leave your yard looking as Hawaii naturally intended, free from invasive species that threaten your home and uproot the native plants of the islands we love so dearly.
